Taking the Lead

What do women want? Now that’s a question better asked than answered! But, ask us “what do women want to wear?” and we know just who to turn to. In our continued celebration of Women’s History Month, here are nine Bal Harbour Shops brands that are led by women, each with their own signature way of giving women what they want.

Lafayette 148 lightweight leather Leonie jacket, mini Zevron print silk shantung Scottie blouse, lightweight leather Degraw short and Sculptural charm hoop earrings from the SS21 collection.

Lafayette 148 lightweight leather Leonie jacket, mini Zevron print silk shantung Scottie blouse, lightweight leather Degraw short and Sculptural charm hoop earrings from the SS21 collection.

Named after the address in SoHo where it was founded, Lafayette 148 New York is a global lifestyle brand led by co-founder and CEO Deirdre Quinn and Creative Director Emily Smith. The American fashion label is rooted in its mission to make beautifully constructed clothing. This year, the company has launched its Kind collections, emphasizing sustainably sourced materials, such as KIndCashmere and KindCotton.

Marie France Van Damme Dandelion-printed silk Boubou caftan from the SS21 collection.

Marie France Van Damme Dandelion-printed silk Boubou caftan from the SS21 collection.

Marie France Van Damme fuses understated European elegance with dramatic Asian aesthetics to create a distinctly unique collection. Designed by Marie France and inspired by her many years of travel, these looks are perfect for holiday travel and embracing that resort spirit wherever you may be. If WFH is on your agenda, may we recommend this caftan, which will instantly up your living room glamour quotient.

Missoni sleeveless dress in cyan blue with a shimmering laminated effect and block-heel, open-toed sandals from the SS21 collection.

Missoni sleeveless dress in cyan blue with a shimmering laminated effect and block-heel, open-toed sandals from the SS21 collection.

Our love for Missoni runs deep. The family-run house—helmed by Angela Missoni who took the reins following her mother, and whose daughter Margherita is being groomed to follow suit—has for decades draped its devotees in knitwear that is unmistakably Missoni.

Silvia Tcherassi Hammon bucket hat, Fresco bralette and Flagler skirt from the SS21 collection.

Colombian-born, Miami-based Silvia Tcherassi is an expert in creating looks with Latin flair. Feminine with a structured edge, it’s likely that many of Tcherassi’s designs are informed by her early career as an interior designer.

Scanlan Theodore silk tropical Azure strappy dress from the SS21 collection.

From the shores of Melbourne, Australia comes Scanlan Theodore, a must-have label in every wise woman’s wardrobe. Like a secret weapon for those “what do I wear” moments, the brand’s collection of contemporary suits, dresses and accessories are timeless and appropriate for any occasion.

Stella McCartney Cassandra dress in bubble gum pink from the SS21 collection.

Stella McCartney Cassandra dress in bubble gum pink from the SS21 collection.

When you slip into something Stella, it’s almost as if you’ve aligned with a sisterhood of conscientious, fashion-forward effortlessly cool mamas. Eco-conscious and sustainable long before they were (very important) buzz words, Stella McCartney dresses modern women who work hard—and play hard, too—in cruelty-free looks that just make you feel good. Case in point, the Cassandra dress, seen here.

Tory Burch T monogram jacquard bucket bag, ruffle-front blouse, embroidered pleated skirt and capri flat lace-up sandal from the SS21 collection.

Tory Burch T monogram jacquard bucket bag, ruffle-front blouse, embroidered pleated skirt and capri flat lace-up sandal from the SS21 collection.

American designer Tory Burch has a way of turning nostalgia into covetable looks we didn’t even know we longed for. Capturing bygone eras and infusing them with a modern take, it’s pretty difficult to go wrong with anything from this trusted, female-forward brand.

Veronica Beard Amadi textured sateen Dickey jacket, pine textured Sateen short and Jie eyelet top from the SS21 collection.

Veronica Beard Amadi textured sateen Dickey jacket, pine textured Sateen short and Jie eyelet top from the SS21 collection.

A tale of two sisters (in-law), Veronica Miele Beard and Veronica Swanson Beard founded their company a decade ago. It pretty much all began with a wardrobe essential, a fitted blazer, but this one is as versatile as the women behind it. The Dickey blazer became the foundational piece of the Veronica Beard brand, which now counts myriad ways to be worn—including this season’s moto leather dickey and Violaine eyelet dickey.

Versace Mixed print silk midi dress, blue Palazzo Dia crystal leather belt, green Medusa Aeternitas Naplak evening bag, thick gold bangle bracelet, gold Grecca hoop earrings and silver Medus Aeternitas choker necklace from the SS21 collection.

Donatella turns up the heat season after season. There is no such thing as understated when it comes to Versace, and this season is no exception. The fierce femme behind the brand took a deep dive into the company archives this season, bringing back some classic Medusa looks in colors that burn so bright, they can’t be ignored.
