Fabiana Filippi calls Bal Harbour Shops home with the latest in Italian-made-fashion. Here, we go behind the scenes on the art of handcrafted tradition and modern design with CEO Filippi Coccetta.

What was your original inspiration behind the creation of Fabiana Filippi?
The headquarters of Fabiana Filippi is in the heart of Umbria, Italy, where we were born and raised. We decided to stay in the land of our roots, a place that adds value to our work, on the one hand for the artistry of knitwear manufacturing here, which arose post-WWII in the region, and on the other for the deep-seated culture and history found in Umbria. We live amidst beautiful places that time has transformed and enhanced – places rich with international cultural influences thanks to events that host music, exhibitions and performances from all around the world. From this very place, this homeland, Fabiana Filippi draws inspiration for all that is beautiful and well-made. The union of these elements with influences that come from our travels to major global cities, from Seoul to Moscow, from New York to London and Paris, brings Fabiana Filippi collections to life.

If you had to describe the Fabiana Filippi brand in three adjectives, what would they be?
Contemporary, refined, timeless.

As you and your brother Giacomo co-founded the brand, how do family dynamics play into the work space?  In other words, how is it to work side-by-side with your brother?
Starting a business with family members means plenty of emotional involvement. With a deep desire to give life to our project, my brother Giacomo, his wife Donatella and I, over the years, have built what Fabiana Filippi is today, assigning ourselves precise responsibilities while maintaining a high level of respect for each other. We have always been convinced of the strength that comes from working with family and we try to extend these values to all our collaborators, seeking to involve them in an incredibly dynamic, exciting project. This has been well received, resulting in the close-knit, cohesive team we have today that, through their dedication, has helped write our story. As a group, these dynamic young people – recently joined by Fabiana, my brother Giacomo’s daughter – challenge themselves and engage in lively discussions in order to achieve a common goal. We are always at their side, offering our experience and support. Our deepest thanks to them all.

Amongst your Miami clients, what are the most popular looks and trends sold at your Bal Harbour boutique?
Our customers mainly request our unique, special pieces, found in each collection. A few examples from the SS19 collection are our modern light brown rain coat featuring brilliant details around the collar, our metallic silver blazer, and the suit (blazer and trousers) in unique, colorful fabric. Our accessories, such as necklaces and earrings, are also in quite high demand, while our cashmere pieces are must-haves for all our clientele.

What exciting news can we expect from the brand and from the gorgeous Bal Harbour boutique?
Bal Harbour remains an inspiring location, as the end consumers who frequent this shopping mall are quite exacting, with rather high expectations. Our goal is to offer them collections that perfectly respond to their needs, while also rewarding them with the thrill of unique garments that embody true Made-in-Italy quality and excellent craftsmanship – the fruit of all that is beautiful and well made. The American market is a priority for Fabiana Filippi, and we hope to build a strong relationship with our Bal Harbour boutique customers.
