And while you may not be taking your usual holiday escape, Valentino has brought us the next best thing, the Escape Capsule collection—a fashion vacation from your SIP uniform. For some expert advice on how to embrace this covetable collection, we checked in with styling savant (she’s worked with Beyoncé, Christian Dior, Oscar de la Renta and The New York Times) and long-time Valentino enthusiast Shiona Turini.
So, who better to show us Valentino’s ‘70s-inspired capsule collection than one of the industry’s leading experts both behind and in front of the camera?

As a friend of the house and an expert in the fashion industry, what does Valentino’s new Escape Capsule Collection represent to you?
I think everyone is looking for an escape right now – both mentally and physically. Our options have been limited (for our own safety of course) but I know that since so many of us turn to travel and new experiences as a source of inspiration, creativity can feel stifled at the moment. What I’ve learned during this time is that finding pockets of joy every day is so important for your spirit. As someone who genuinely loves fashion, Valentino’s new Escape Capsule Collection not only made me feel inspired, but it was a reminder of the joy that dressing up can bring me. It was the perfect mental getaway from my daily routine.

Do you have a favorite look from the collection?
I loved that Pierpaolo Piccioli drew from the archives and reinvented prints and patterns from the ’70s. It felt nostalgic but done in such a cool, modern way.
My favorite look from the collection was definitely the yellow V Logo’d bikini and coordinating skirt. I’m obsessed with matching sets and really love being able to mix and match the swim with other items from the collection.
If you could “escape” to anywhere in the world at this moment, where would you go?
If I could escape to anywhere in the world right now it would definitely be back home to Bermuda. Summer in Bermuda is my favorite time of year so I’m missing our turquoise waters and powder soft beaches, spending hours on boats and of course, spending time with my family.

How did you find your voice?
I grew up around so many strong women who really pushed me from a very young age to question the world around me, explore my individuality, and find my own voice. When I first fell in love with fashion, I started to make my own clothes and took sewing lessons throughout high school. I also always held various after-school and weekend jobs. So, I’ve been fiercely independent my entire life which means I’ve been trusting my own instincts since I was a child.
Of course, I have moments of self-doubt – I’m human – but I’m constantly researching, trying to learn new skills and self-reflecting so that my foundation of knowledge and experience is strong.
Looking back on your Bermudian roots and to where you are now, what would you say you are most proud of in all that you have accomplished?
On a personal level, I have a large family with a lot of impressionable younger nieces, nephews and cousins. I’m proud that I have played a part in the life that they are building for themselves but showing them that with hard work you can achieve more than you ever imagined.
Professionally, I’m proud that I’ve been able to be resilient in a changing industry. I was able to pivot from publicist to editor, freelance stylist to costume designer all while consulting and having my own passion projects on the side. Not only that, but I was nominated for a Costume Designers Guild Award for my first feature film, which was an incredible honor.
