Though it may have been put on the map for its ski—and inimitable après ski lifestyle—summer might be Aspen’s true season. The mercury will rarely hit higher than the mid-80s, and the dry, warm weather makes it ideal for every outdoor hobby. Paraglide off the mountaintops, for example, or take an al fresco yoga class; there’s mountain biking, e-biking, while avid hikers should tackle the challenging Buckskin Pass, which offers superb views across the Elk Mountains. And for a Tom Fazio fix, head to the Maroon Creek Club where there’s plenty for the family to enjoy beyond the links, too.
When you’ve worked up a sweat, idle away a summer afternoon with one of those lingering lunches somewhere that’s buzzy whatever the day of the week. Cache Cache is a perennial favorite for outdoor eating, as is Sant Ambroeus. Or, try the newly opened Yuki, helmed by Chef Nobu Matsuhisa and located between members club AM7 and music venue Belly Up.
The arts play a huge role in defining Aspen’s culture scene, from this week’s Art Crush to last month’s Food & Wine Classic, to the summerlong Aspen Music Festival (through August 23), it’s time to pack your bags—streamlined by the BHS Edit below—and head West.
