This summer, as Miami takes center stage as one of the FIFA World Cup 2026 host cities (including marquee match-ups between Brazil and Scotland, Colombia and Portugal, a quarterfinal, and the Bronze Final at Hard Rock Stadium), Bal Harbour Shops invites patrons into an experience that reframes and supersizes the world’s most iconic sporting object.

In a creative partnership with the multidisciplinary artist Jon Paul, founder of the football design studio 12 Pentagons, Bal Harbour Shops has launched an immersive art installation of the same name, rooted in the unexpected (yet very human!) intersection of imperfection and mastery.

The concept of “12 Pentagons” began with something that wasn’t quite right: a badly cut, barely round soccer ball, with 12 patched together pentagon-shaped pieces forming its body that… well, needed to be made better.

Hundreds of tries later, with each iteration documented candidly, and Paul has built a following around the process. Every design decision and every fumble is all shown in full.

At the heart of the partnership is Paul’s latest concept: “The Badly Drawn Ball.” Its premise is simple: Five thousand people were asked to draw a soccer ball from memory. The results, which were lopsided, irregular, and sometimes brazenly wrong, were distilled into an actual item. The Badly Drawn Ball itself.

Through June 28th, a large-scale sculptural version of The Badly Drawn Ball is now installed in Bal Harbour Shops’ Central Courtyard, marking an unmistakable visual landmark for the duration of the World Cup. Guests are invited to participate directly, too. They can submit their own hand-drawn ball designs via iPad to join a growing global collection. A dedicated monitor showcases Paul’s process, offering a window into the craft and consideration behind each piece.

Blue, Black and Red soccer balls

TBD

Collectible ball kits are available for purchase, while Bal Harbor Shops Access members will receive exclusive opportunities to acquire Paul’s one-of-a-kind art balls.

Following its presentation at Bal Harbour Shops, the larger-than-life sculpture will relocate to Bal Harbour Village Beach from July 1 through July 27.
