Mother May I?

By Lauren Caruso

Collage of assorted luxury fashion, jewelry, home decor and accessory items sourced from Bal Harbour Shops

How often have we heard “you don’t have to get me anything?” But doesn’t mom deserve it all? We certainly think so!

For the ever-stylish mom with a closet full of couture, we’ve curated options she’ll reach for time and time again, like a peplum corduroy-trimmed leather jacket from Alexander McQueen, a DSquared2 caftan that doubles as a beach coverup, or the new Chanel 25 handbag nobody else will have. Or, if jewelry is what she loves, we can nearly guarantee Bulgari’s two-toned Serpenti Tubogas watch has been on her list. Meanwhile, for the mom whose coffee table is stacked with interior design books, we’ve curated a mix of heirloom-level homewares and self-care must-haves.

And, for those looking to give mom an experience on Mother’s Day weekend, head to Bal Harbour Shops where many of our stores are hosting special moments just for mom: on May 9th, Scanlan Theodore is offering a complimentary bouquet with purchase, while Prada will also have custom floral creations in store on the 9th and 10th to introduce their Days of Summer collection. Also on the 9th and 10th at Assouline, a special in-store gift-with-purchase activation includes personalized poems, and Diptyque is offering seasonal floral bouquets and complimentary scented gifts with purchase ($250 or more) on May 10, while Ferragamo is welcoming customers May 10-11 with custom holiday-themed cards and a floral giveaway. And on the 11th, Frette welcomes customers to enjoy refreshing teas, sparkling Prosecco, and artisanal delights.

No matter if she’s the woman who gave you life or an inspirational maternal figure who guided you along the way, these sentimental gifts from Bal Harbour Shops are sure to show your appreciation.

Serious Style

Does the Vogue Runway app account for most of her weekly screen time? Would she never leave the house without dressing to the nines? Is she known to carry everything but the kitchen sink in her purse? Consider upgrading her to Saint Laurent’s large Jamie bag, which boasts plenty of room for her phone, wallet, snacks—and a new pair of Audrey Hepburn-inspired sunglasses from Morgenthal Frederics. Other crowd-pleasers included Loewe’s new ballet sneakers, DSquared2’s flowy beach dress, or a fresh new pair of compression leggings from Wolford, which are comfortable enough for workouts and rest days.

Timeless Treasures

But what do you get for the mom who wants for nothing? Something she doesn’t even know she wants yet, of course. If Mom’s love language can be boiled down to “something sparkly,” David Yurman’s show-stopping Diamant Sculptural necklace is guaranteed to send her heart aflutter. Or, for the mom with more subdued taste, the classic Serpenti watch from Bulgari might be just the thing. No matter what you choose, pair it with a hand-written note and it’ll be the frontrunner for gift of the year.

Creature Comforts

If Mom prefers an afternoon spent gazing out the bay window with a good book and a face mask to a fancy spa day, this one’s for you. For the ultimate host—or homebody—consider making her home even more of a sanctuary with a cult-favorite diffuser from Le Labo or Diptyque, or, swaddle her in the perfect robe from Haremlique Istanbul and treat her to breakfast in bed. And because those fresh-cut flowers could use a new home in the form of a sculptural vase, we found two that’ll garner all the oohs and ahhs from all who enter.

“Drawing from the elegance and symbolism of Japanese aesthetics, this floral couture gown expresses spring as a season of renewal, precision, and living beauty. A dramatic, obi-inspired pink waistband represents harmony and strength.” —Lorrie Sanon, Indigo Hues Designs, presented by Makoto.

“Our mannequin captures the spirit of spring through a fresh, fashion-forward botanical vision. Designed in a palette of crisp whites and soft blues, the gown is composed of layered spring blooms that create movement, lightness and texture, evoking blossoms unfolding in a European cafe garden.” —Nadja Rain Soimaud, Flowers by Rain, presented by Avenue 31 Cafe.
