It’s peak season for summer travel and there’s always a new reason to head to Europe. We’ve highlighted three must-visit hotels in three of our favorite destinations— Mallorca, Cannes and London—and put together a packing list for each. Read on and get ready to make those reservations!
This imperial-era grande dame, built in 1906 and the former HQ of Britain’s secret service, has just undergone a lavish renovation. New owner Sanjay Hinduja splashed out more than $1.2 billion to turn the Old War Office into London’s ground zero for glamour, reincarnated as The OWO. Comprised of the 120-room five-star Raffles hotel and just 85 residences, the property features 9 restaurants, including a trio by Michelin-endorsed Mauro Colagreco, plus the first spa run by Guerlain in London. The real draw, though, is its half dozen signature suites, each housed in painstakingly restored wood-paneled reception room, where dignitaries were once welcomed by Winston Churchill and co.
The wedding cake-like Carlton Hotel on the Croisette in Cannes was built in 1911, and became an instant icon. In recent years, though, its glamour had rather faded; thankfully, its comeback was masterminded by French interior designer Tristan Auer, who has spent two years working to reinvigorate the entire property. The hotel is now under the Regent brand; the biggest change is the addition of two new residence wings, which overlook the rear courtyard. From that perfect perch, you’ll enjoy views of an enclosed garden, an expansive pool, sunbathing decks, and privacy-granting cabanas.
The 31-room finca-turned-hotel Son Net, nestled in Mallorca’s Tramuntana mountain range, just reopened after a multi-million-dollar renovation from its new operators, the same team as the beloved Finca Cortesin in Malaga. Its sumptuously maximalist new interiors, courtesy designer Lorenzo Castillo, feature canopied four posters, handmade floor tiles and fabrics that nod to the Mallorquin Ikat pattern throughout. Don’t miss the chance for an al fresco supper in the quirky outdoor private dining room, a poolside terrace with soaring views that’s hidden behind a high hedge. Best of the perches is undoubtedly the two-bedroom standalone villa, with its own private pool tucked discreetly away from the main house.
