GO BEHIND THE SCENES

Stepping into Spring

In the Spring Fashion cover story, “Unstoppable,” Supermodel Karolina Kurkova plays the muse in a series of transformative looks, channeling a cast of powerful archetypes in the season’s most alluring silhouettes from Balenciaga, Chanel, Oscar de la Renta, Elisabetta Franchi, Fendi, and more.

“In this story, I wanted to photograph both sides of the character—the one that shows us the freedom to adapt the fashion of now to her own personal style, in contrast with her inevitable desire to pay homage to the classics and to the women in her family,” explains photographer Andrés Oyuela. “The range of the two universes will be the main character in this story.”

Oyuela wanted to explore the power of transformation through the lens of fashion. And what better time than Spring to do so? Here, he shares more about his inspiration and the character Kurkova embodies.

“By day, she wears the trends. She knows that fashion evolves, yet she manages to adapt it to her personal style. She wears little make up, has pared down hair—but always pretty, always done,” explains Oyuela. “By night, she becomes a staple of classic, glamorous beauty. She sticks with everything that feels timeless. She often turns to pictures of her mother and grandmother: always so perfect, unafraid of a graphic eye, a red lip, an incredible blowout or a structured updo.”

“She has studied the classics, she knows about Avedon she knows about Irving Penn, and whenever she thinks of what to wear for a special evening, she thinks of how she would dress for a sitting at one of their legendary photo studios.”

While getting ready for her shoot, we asked the chameleon-like Kurkova for some insider’s tips on travel, beauty, and her plans for 2026.

Bal Harbour Magazine: You’ve sat in countless beauty chairs throughout your career. What is one industry beauty tip you’ve learned?

Karolina Kurkova: Put your face in ice water.

BHM: Do you have a go-to beauty product?

KK: Eyebrow gel.

BHM: You’ve had years of success in the industry, starting at the young age of 16. How do you continue to reinvent yourself and keep a pulse on the industry as it evolves?

KK: By always staying curious.

BHM: What is one thing you do to hype yourself up before a big shoot or runway show?

KK: I always listen to a good song that makes you feel good.

BHM: Is there a specific artist or song that you turn on?

KK: It changes, but I always go for the oldies. I go back to the 80s—especially Madonna and Michael Jackson.

BHM: What is something you’re looking forward to in 2026?

KK: For me, 2026 is about focusing more on my wellbeing and continuing to challenge myself. I want to keep pushing myself to be a better person—and to have fun doing it.
