The pinnacle of Los Angeles cool, James Perse launched his eponymous label in the mid-90s with a luxe collection of T-shirts and knits for women. Nearly 15 years later, the brand has expanded into menswear, childrenswear and a collection of home furnishings. In addition to the core collections, the new Bal Harbour outpost—the first outside of L.A. to carry the home line—will also stock limited edition pieces. Here we speak to James Perse about his brand’s new home.
Tell us about your first week at Bal Harbour Shops.
It exceeded our expectations.
How has the brand been received?
The James Perse brand is perfectly matched to the year-round climate and lifestyle of South Florida. There’s a similar sensibility between Southern California and South Florida. It’s clear that Bal Harbour shoppers are finding that the brand fits right in.
Why did you choose Bal Harbour for your first free-standing store in Florida?
Bal Harbour is the only collection of great shops that doesn’t feel like a mall. It’s more a village of best-in-class retail stores. We are filling the niche of the best casual sportswear.
Are there any items in the store, only available at BHS?
Our Bal Harbour store is the first and only store on the East Coast to carry our furniture collection and our new Yosemite performance brand.
