Saks Fifth Avenue takes Personal Shopping to the Next Level

Q&A
Saks Fifth Avenue’s customized Mercedes delivers The Personal Shopping Experience, right to your doorstep.

As if shopping at Saks Fifth Avenue, Bal Harbour wasn’t already one of our favorite activities, the experience is being elevated a few notches with the introduction of the Personal Shopping Experience. Available in only two other markets in the country, Saks Fifth Avenue has introduced its most VIP retail experience to Bal Harbour. Now, you can enjoy personal shopping, styling and tailoring (with your favorite Bal Harbour SFA associate, of course) at home—or even at work, for those major multi-taskers out there.

Here, we speak with Deborah Slack, Vice President and General Manager of Saks Fifth Avenue Bal Harbour, about the Personal Shopping Experience.

How did the idea for the Saks Personal Shopping Experience come to light?
Saks Fifth Avenue created The Personal Shopping Experience (PSE) to provide an exceptional, elevated and personalized shopping experience for our clients. We’re one of three pilot stores in the country to launch PSE, with the other two being NYC and Beverly Hills. It speaks volumes that this market was chosen to be one of the very few stores selected to launch this luxury VIP experience.

What is your goal with PSE?
Our goal is to provide Saks Fifth Avenue clients the convenience of personal shopping, styling, beauty consultations and tailoring services all in their home, workplace or hotel. This new innovative luxury shopping service offers each customer in every community the ability to shop with their favorite consultant on their schedule in their preferred location. We bring it all to you!

Who can take part in the Personal Shopping Experience?
The Personalized Shopping Experience is offered to all Saks Fifth Avenue Clients, local residents, international visitors and luxury hotel guests interested in an elevated personalized shopping experience. We feel this is a great opportunity for time-starved clients, those who prefer a little more privacy, men who rather not shop, a more mature person who cannot make it to the store, family dressing, girlfriend groups, travelers who just arrived and don't want to leave their hotel, and it is an ideal opportunity to see how new merchandise works with our client's own closet... just to name a few!

How is the service provided?
The Personalized Shopping Experience travels to our clients via a customized Mercedes Sprinter van. The vehicle is fully equipped with hanging bars, shoe racks, collapsible rolling rack, alterations kit and a safe for fine jewelry. The PSE Mercedes can accommodate seating for eight, including our Personal Shopping Consultants, Jewelry, Cosmetics and Alterations Specialists. Two drivers travel with the PSE Mercedes at all times and assist the Consultant by bringing merchandise to and from the client’s appointment.

What can customers expect from this Saks Fifth Avenue service?
The experience is tailored to the client’s needs, based on the client’s request, for example: a total wardrobe make-over for the busy executive, special occasion dressing for a family wedding, or a men’s made-to-measure experience.

One of our experienced Personal Shoppers will then bring an edited version of the store directly to the client. The Personal Shopper will have access to the total store, including men’s made-to-measure and all designers available at the Saks Fifth Avenue.

Then, when it’s time to purchase, we take care of the transaction on site, and the merchandise is yours—without any trip to the store.

How does one book an appointment?
The client will call the fully-dedicated Personalized Shopping Experience telephone number (305) 744-1580 to make his/her appointment. We request that the client fill out a profile sheet asking very specific questions about lifestyle, body type, the time they wish the appointment to begin and finish, sizing, and sense of style as well as a photo, to properly address the client's needs. After the profile sheet is reviewed, our team will match the best suited Personal Shopper to work with this client.

How long do the appointments usually last and how far in advance must one book the appointment?
The length of an appointment is based on the client’s wishes. We strive to provide our clients with the utmost care and attention to detail, so it is the client who makes the determination based on their schedule. We prefer 24-hour notice on scheduling all appointments, but it’s not required.
