Vilebrequin’s Big Move

Q&A
Vilebrequin opens its global flagship at Bal Harbour.

This week, Vilebrequin opens its largest store in the world at Bal Harbour Shops. Though the Saint Tropez-born brand has been selling its famously patterned swim trunks at Bal Harbour for the last 10 years, this new Global Flagship store will carry the complete ready-to-wear collections and all that Vilebrequin has to offer. Here, we speak with company’s CEO, Roland Herlory, about pineapple prints, dancing turtles and what makes Bal Harbour its most important market.

What makes Bal Harbour such an important market for Vilebrequin?
The local residents, the international clientele, the quality and variety of amazing shops. Of course, the South Florida weather with its year around warm climate make this store our most important one in the world.

Was it a purposeful decision to make this store the largest in the world?
Since it is one of our most important markets globally, when the opportunity of a larger space presented itself—that would allow us to display our new products like the recently introduced women’s collection, accessories and ready-to-wear—it made perfect sense strategically to make the Bal Harbour Shops store our worldwide flagship.

What can we expect to find at the Flagship?
The store will offer the largest and widest offering of all the stores. You will be able to discover the entire range of Vilebrequin products. We also present a limited-edition bathing suit, embroidered with matte 18k gold thread turtles. Each scale of the turtle is embroidered in a different direction, which causes a nice light play in the sunlight.

Do you have a favorite Vilebrequin print?
For the coming season I love the pineapple print.

If you were to design a print, what would it look like?
The print would be colorful, happy and chic.

What continues to be the most popular print and style?
The Moorea "Turtle Dance" is still the most popular print.  This store will offer a full selection of ready to wear.

Is that an important component for the brand's growth?
It is essential. We already have a very special and unique position as the leader in swimsuits, thanks to our over 40 years of expertise and experience. We invented a style, a fit and finally a look, which is a mix of fantasy and elegance.
