Bal Harbour Shops debuts its first two-story store with the new Salvatore Ferragamo Flagship store. The new Flagship nearly doubles its previous space from from 4,300 square feet to 8,100 square feet.

According to Vincent Ottomanelli, President of Ferragamo USA, “The expansion of the Bal Harbour boutique will provide a rich and intimate Ferragamo experience for our customers, delivering an impressive redesign to highlight new collections from Creative Director Massimiliano Giornetti.” We sat down with Ottomanelli prior to the Flagship store’s opening weekend to discuss Fall fashion, Fiamma bags and Ferragamo’s new look.

What makes Bal Harbour such a key market for Salvatore Ferragamo?
The first store opened in December 1997, and has since been a luxury shopping destination for fashionable residents of South Florida and visitors of the Miami area alike. This market is one which is continuously developing and expanding and we are pleased to provide a rich and intimate Ferragamo experience with a focus on the latest runway designs from Creative Director, Massimiliano Giornetti.

Does this new, two-story design follow an existing template?
With the recent evolution of the brand, the House has embarked on an impressive redesign set to provide a luxurious shopping experience to our customers. The design will follow the Fifth Avenue Flagship prototype that was reopened in 2012 in New York.

Tell us about the magnificent staircase that links the two floors.
A grand staircase of walnut wall paneling finished in ivory and gold to create a Mondrian effect is accented with vertical slits of LED lighting—all imported from Italy. At the top of the staircase is a custom ceiling sculpture, SKYDRO, designed by Ross Lovegrove for Artemide.

Are there any Bal Harbour exclusives in store?
In celebration of the boutique reopening, Salvatore Ferragamo will be offering exotic pieces exclusive to the Bal Harbour Flagship. These pieces include the Susi pump in amber alligator and plum alligator, as well as a special version of the fall runway messenger bag in both amber and plum alligator.

What are some of the key pieces for the brand this Fall?
Ferragamo's latest house icon, the Fiamma handbag, will be a centerpiece of the boutique in September from exotic materials like black crocodile and supple calfskin with gold hardware handles. For men, Ferragamo's new sneaker collection will have a strong presence in the Bal Harbour location with styles ranging from gold grommets on white leather to red patent with the house Gancio symbol, utilizing Ferragamo’s most luxurious mixed materials.
