Chopard Gets Happy

Chopard's Happy Sport medium automatic set in 18kt rose gold with 45 Diamonds.

This year Chopard is celebrating a big anniversary – 60 years of creating the beloved Happy Sport. A highlight of the 60th anniversary celebration is the opening of a new service center in Miami to serve Chopard’s loyal clients in the U.S., Latin America and the Caribbean. We spoke to Marc Hruschka, President and CEO of Chopard North America, about the opening of the new state-of-the-art facility, what else the brand has in store this year and what his own most cherished timepiece is.

Why was it important to make the workspace transparent from the entry point? Does that design element reinforce the role of the skilled jewelers and craftsmen?
The facility is designed in order to provide optimal transparency of the workspaces including the company’s highly trained, experienced jewelers and watchmakers. The entire workshop process can be viewed, this heightening the customer’s Chopard experience.

Why did you choose to open the facility in Miami?
Miami was the ideal location for this customer service center in order to provide the best possible resource for the maintenance and repair of Chopard jewelry and watches for the United States, Latin America, and the Caribbean.

What kind of advanced technology and tools are being used at the facility?
The facility features a watchmakers’ workshop, dedicated polishing and cleaning rooms, as well as rooms for jewelers among other distinct features. The high-tech training center has an interactive training area enabling direct communications with the Geneva headquarters and projection of technical documentation, films and videos. Equipment includes the new HD Leica microscope that enables trainers to demonstrate even the most minute of technical adjustments and also project the images on shared screens.

Tell us about your personal collection of timepieces. When did you begin collecting and how many pieces do you now have? Which is your most treasured?
I have been very fortunate to work for several important brands and, as a result, have assembled a collection over the years.

My most treasured timepieces are those that were given to me by grandfather, who was in the industry in South America. While they are not necessarily valuable, they mean a great deal to me. Others I have purchased to celebrate personal or professional milestones.
