Adventure with Giada De Laurentiis

Bestselling cookbook author and Food Network personality Giada De Laurentiis is known for her connection to family and the family members who helped inspire her love of cooking, including her famous Aunt Raffy and her 5-year-old daughter Jade. Giada has shared her passion for food with millions of people through her popular cookbooks and TV programs, Everyday Italian and Giada at Home and this Fall she introduces a new series of children’s books, Giada De Laurentiis's Recipe for Adventure: Naples! and Paris!

The Food Network star will be in town signing copies of Recipe for Adventure at Books & Books Bal Harbour on Thursday, September 12 at 6:00pm. We caught up with De Laurentiis to discuss her favorite restaurants, which cities she’ll be exploring next and how she juggles food, family and life.

Vouchers are available for this event at Books & Books in Coral Gables, Miami Beach and Bal Harbour Shops and online. You receive your voucher in exchange for your purchase of “Recipe for Adventure: Naples” and “Recipe for Adventure: Paris” ($13.98 + tax). This voucher serves as your entry for (1) one family (up to 4 people) to the Giada de Laurentiis autographing line and entitles you to receive both books. All books will be distributed at the autographing on September 12 and not before then. That’s two books per family.

Giada will sign and personalize her two children’s books and in addition, will sign (not personalize) as many of her cookbooks as have been purchased at Books & Books, Bal Harbour Shops that day (with receipt).

You appear to be working on at least five projects at once. How do you find the balance with work and life?

I am working on a lot of projects, which started at different times but culminated all at once. So, it takes a great family and a great team behind me to strike that balance. Luckily, I have both!!

What was the first recipe your Nonna taught you?
I call it " Nonna Luna's Rice" and it's a creamy risotto dish with shrimp. A big family favorite.

Recipe for Adventure was said to be partially inspired by personal experience. Does your daughter enjoy spending time in the kitchen with you?
Jade LOVES spending time in the kitchen with me. She loves to help with cooking and testing recipes. She'll say "Too much pepper, Mama." Or "I wish this had more parm..." It's adorable... and more often than not, she's right! She says now that she wants to be a waitress at my restaurant when she grows up. Ah, to be five again!

The first two cities you explore are Paris and Naples. Can you share your favorite restaurants in each city with our more mature readers ?
Lets see... Paris, I would have to say "Le Chateaubriand" or "Le Dauphin". Naples, Ristorante Rosiello Posillipo

What is your favorite ingredient to cook with and why?
Parmigiano. It just finishes a dish and gives it that little extra bite and saltiness I love!

What are some of the other food cities you have in store for the future?
Next stop after Naples and Paris is Hong Kong. After that, you'll have to wait and see!!
