A killer pair of ankle boots is an absolute necessity. Gone are the days when you played it safe with basic black. This Fall, great style starts from the ground up.
Scroll through your Instagram feed and velvet is trending big time. Footwear is a doable way to tap into the trend, but you’ve got to go bold. Salvatore Ferragamo’s luxe velvet striped booties with an almond toe and 4-inch block heel are at the top of our list. Take a cue from the fall runway show, which paired the eye-catching geo design with everything from black and white to vibrant patterns.
If a sumptuous solid is more your style, consider Saint Laurent’s Babies ankle boots in lipstick red. They add cool-girl cachet to floral midi dresses and cropped denim. You’ll also find plenty of rich jewel tones in the “From Russia With Love” collection at the soon-to-be opened Aquazzura boutique. The velvet Baroque Booties are in a brilliant shade of Prussian blue.
Jimmy Choo designer Sandra Choi said she played with contradictions for Fall, “most particularly tough fused with soft.” We get that message with the Mavy 100, military-inspired peep toe booties in plush amber velvet. Finished with gold hardware and velvet lacing, they’re just the right amount of edgy for a night out.
On the subject of nights out, Giuseppe Zanotti’s Karine ankle boots in suede make a very worthy accomplice. With the opulent gold chain detailing and skyscraping stiletto heel, your outfit is going to be secondary.
For making an entrance, we also love Charlotte Olympia’s glitter-dusted Alba ankle boots. Aside from literally lighting up a room, the round toe and block heel make them ultra-wearable.
One of the fiercest trends this fall is leopard print, which strutted all over the runways. Treat Tod’s ankle boots in haircalf as a go-with-everything neutral and you’ll rack up serious fashion mileage. Tom Ford and Stella McCartney also got into the leopard game with their own eye-catching versions; Ford went with a sculptural stiletto heel, while McCartney opted for a sturdy block heel.
Go for rock ’n’ roll glam with Chloé’s Susanna Short Boot in material du jour velvet, decked out with golden studs in a floral motif. The trio of buckles and sturdy Cuban heel bring everyday cool to your wardrobe, whether you’re off on a free-spirited European adventure or just want to look like you could be.
