Purple Reign

Every year, Pantone presents its color of the year. It’s an incredible feat of forecasting and data grabbing, trendwatching and just a bit of fortune telling. This year, purple is the color of the moment, and in particular, a deep shade called ultra violet. Chloé was an early adopter of the shade, seen above on its Resort runway, along with the small Pixie double-handle bag.

Over at Akris, the Ai bag, which is available to be made just to your liking, has found its perfectly purple iteration. It’s also one of the most versatile bags you can clasp your hands around. It can be configured into a rectangular shopper, pure trapezoid tote or as a messenger bag.

Balenciaga had a few purple tricks up its sleeve for Resort. We’d venture to say that many a stylish New Yorker donned one of the brand’s oversized puffers, or perhaps went for this aubergine-hued coat which has perfected the windswept look.

Oscar de la Renta can be counted on for a pop of color. Its Impatiens Flower drop earrings makes a statement in purple. They’re a romantic addition to any ensemble and would look as appropriate with a T-shirt and jeans as a cocktail dress.

Bottega Veneta continues to release a rainbow of colors for its signature bags, including the recently reintroduced Lauren 1980 clutch. This shade, called Twilight, is like taking baby steps into the world of violet. It’s perfectly neutral without being bland.

Linda Farrow, which is one of the newest brands to open at Bal Harbour Shops, is known for statement-making eyewear. The 98 C6 round sunglasses from Dries Van Noten is the perfect accent for men or women looking to punctuate with purple.

And for those whose sartorial leanings bend toward dandy, might we suggest Roger Vivier‘s Flower Strass Embroidery loafers. These suede slip-on loafers have a retro-inspired jeweled buckle crafted with crystal flowers—just the bit of sparkle you need to brighten any old day.
