Riding with Ralph Lauren

Fashion News

Looking back on New York Fashion Week, there were plenty of memorable sartorial moments, which by now you have no doubt read all about. But if there was one show that’s deserving a second (perhaps third) look, it would be Ralph Lauren’s collection, staged dramatically at the designer’s Bedford Mills, New York garage.

We—like many others—have catalogued the designer’s incredible car collection, with its many rare and incredibly sought after specimens. And all 26 of the rarest cars in the world—including the heartstopping $40 million Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic—made between 1937 and 2015, were on display alongside the Spring 2018 mens and womens collections.

Taking center stage, though, were the particular cars that inspired the current collection. These included a 2014 McLaren P1, 2015 Ferrari and a 2014 Porsche 918 (in yellow, red and silver, respectively.) We saw references to these incredible vehicles in a bright yellow coat, a va va voom red tulle and patent leather number worn fiercely by Bella Hadid and an iridescent gown that captured the essence of that silver Porsche.

There were no austerity measures in the air in this tent—make that garage. This was a lavish occasion celebrating 50 years of the brand that has left some of the greatest imprints on our collective American wardrobe. Following the show was a food-fueled soiree (catered by Ralph’s, natch), which was enjoyed by the star-studded crowd.
