Moncler's Artful Exploration

Fashion News

Though the temperature is at an all time high just about everywhere, the fashion set has Fall on its mind. Pre-Fall collections are finding their way into stores, giving us a taste of the full Fall season to come. And Fall campaigns, which seem to escalate in artistic direction each season, are filing into place in magazines hitting newsstands this month.

And, among the greatest standouts is Moncler’s artful collaboration. Bringing together two contemporary artists—American photographer Annie Leibovitz and Chinese artist Liu Bolin—Moncler pushes their brand into a new space where art and commerce are closer than ever.

Having first presented this compelling duo to us in the Spring, Moncler continues to hold our attention this season with a fantastical composition. Bolin is a master of illusion, creating surrealist compositions where the artist as subject practically disappears from the landscape. The behind the scenes process is captured in a video, seen below.

Once again, Moncler tells its story through an experimental narrative thread which incorporates art, nature, technological research and pure creativity, in accordance with the brand’s DNA. Similarly in line with the DNA is the shoot’s location in Iceland, immersed in the glaciers where water, sky and ice meld together in one shining visual statement.

Born in 1973 in Shandong and based in Peking, Liu Bolin has achieved international fame with the epithet “Invisible Man”. The Chinese artist's success lies in his photographic self-portraits, his signature being body transparency within a surrounding area—a total dissolving of identification within the environment.

Leibovitz, who has shot the last six campaigns for Moncler, is one of the greatest photographers of our time. Her photographs are found on the pages of numerous fashion and lifestyle magazines—most notably Vogue and Vanity Fair—and have been exhibited in galleries and museums around the world.
