The Big Reveal

Ermanno Scervino's asymmetric organza dress.

By Jessica Mehalic Lucas

Skin is in. That was apparent on the Spring runways as almost everyone had their own dare-to-bare spin. From the sheer lingerie-inspired layers at Chanel to the off-the-shoulder florals at Chloé, designers introduced suggestive-yet-soignée looks that you can actually pull off in the real world.

Ermanno Scervino got into the sheer game with ethereal dresses in silk organza, detailed with honeycomb embroidery, pleats and other elegant flourishes. Pair with metallic ankle-wrap sandals and watch jaws drop at your next event.

For a darker, more urban take on see-through style, slip into one of Bottega Veneta’s luxe looks. Tomas Maier created a series of intricately woven dresses in black, as well as this stretch knit top and ribbed knit sweater paired back to a midi skirt in summery suede. It’s a great way to showcase all the hard work you’ve been putting in at Pilates class.

Give your closet an It Girl refresh with effortless, SoCal-inspired designs from 3.1 Phillip Lim. Daring cutouts modernize a sleeveless crepe dress; a cold-shoulder silhouette adds edginess to a shift dress in clashing florals. This zipper-sleeve jumpsuit taps into the season’s major shoulder-baring trend, plus provides a cool new option for evening.

The one-shoulder silhouette was on repeat at Saint Laurent’s show. Paying homage to high-voltage ’80s glamour, asymmetric dresses and tops in leather, metallics and leopard print caught the collective eye of party girls everywhere.

We usually associate Akris with exquisite yet understated luxury; thigh-baring slits don’t come to mind. This season, Albert Kriemler designed elegantly draped dresses and skirts with a sultry side slit. The bold graphic prints were informed by the work of Cuban-American artist Carmen Herrera.

The high volume statement sleeve is front and center this season. And if the silhouette is asymmetric? Even better. Stella McCartney’s chunky stitch dress in breezy linen shows a sliver of shoulder and is the perfect daytime pick for staying chic in the heat.
