Got a Hold on You

A wise man once said, "Luxury bags make your life more pleasant, make you dream, give you confidence, and show your neighbors you're doing well." That wise man was Karl Lagerfeld and well, let’s all agree he knows a thing or two about great style. Just arriving in boutiques now, spring’s star performers are certainly covetable, confidence-boosting and worth dreaming about.
Nothing but #instalove for Chanel’s new Gabrielle bag, the brand’s first major launch since the Boy was introduced in 2011. Launched on Spring’s data center runway, Gabrielle comes in a variety of iterations—backpacks, bucket bags, large shoppers—and materials, ranging from classic lambskin to alligator.
Lipstick holders are now officially a thing, thanks to Valentino’s Pierpaolo Piccioli. Outfitted with a mirror, the pint-sized beauties are available in medieval-inspired prints or supercharged solids (fuchsia, cherry, chartreuse) with Rockstud detail. Take a cue from the runway and pair with a complementary clutch or layer with a mini crossbody bag.
Mini bags aren’t going anywhere and Goyard’s newest addition, the Saigon Mini, makes for a spectacular little showpiece. Featuring a bold 1930s aesthetic, the timelessly chic design is available in 11 statement-making colors from classic black and tan to luscious yellow.
Akris offers a stunning Lilliputian lineup for the season. The iconic Ai bag is now available in two fun new sizes, the Ai Micro and the Ai Nano, and a riot of bold colors. Crafted from grained calfskin, the Micro can be worn crossbody or used as a bag within a bag, while the Nano in smooth cervocalf leather serves as a stylish key holder or statement charm on a larger Ai style.
Found: the ultimate day-to-night bag. In honor of its 50th anniversary, Bottega Veneta designed the City Knot, a modern update on the iconic 1970s knot clutch. Debuting in the Spring show, the boxy silhouette features three roomy compartments and an adjustable chain and leather strap—so it can be carried on the shoulder or by hand. Choose from three luxe versions: caramel-colored French calf leather, butterfly-embossed goatskin and leopard print calf hair mixed with smooth French calf leather.
La Dolce Vita… in a handbag. Dolce & Gabbana’s new Lucia collection encapsulates the brand’s signature Italian glam. The clasp is reminiscent of vintage trunks, inspired by the designers’ love of travel and antique trinkets. Lucia is available in a variety of hues and patterns, from striking colorblock to decadent florals, as well a range of textures including soft calf leather, python and crocodile.
For a cutting-edge carryall, look to Balenciaga’s red lambskin Air bag, modeled after a Moroccan footstool. Offered in three different sizes, the rounded tote was an instant favorite when Demna Gvasalia marched it down the Spring runway.
