Step Into Spring

Fashion News
Saint Laurent’s pump taps into two of the season’s trends; metallics and ankle interest.

By Jessica Mehalic Lucas

If there was ever a time to let fabulous footwear lead your outfit-making decisions, it’s now. Spring’s obsession-worthy shoes emphasize the ankle with intricate lacing, bold buckles and other accoutrements. Not only do these standout styles draw attention to the slimmest part of the legs, but they also lend extra support—a fashion win-win.

In Anthony Vaccarello’s debut for Saint Laurent, he strutted sultry patent stilettos adorned with metallic ruffles down the runway. Take a cue from the ’80s-inspired show and pair these stunners with everything from boyfriend jeans to miniskirts.

“I set out to create a flat that you can wear from day to night—with jeans and a t-shirt but also with a dress for a cocktail party,” Aquazzura founder Edgardo Osorio recently told Bal Harbour Shops. He nailed it with the Christy Flat, an iconic lace-up style refreshed for Spring in embroidered denim with a silver heel.

Gianvito Rossi highlighted satin—in vivid shades of orange, red, blue and violet—in his covetable Spring collection. “Satin is light, very feminine and elegant, but not as delicate as people think,” he recently told Bal Harbour Shops. Stunning stilettos are finished with bold ribbons that seductively wrap around the ankle, guaranteeing entrance-making moments.

Everyone’s color crushing on pink this season and Charlotte Olympia’s fuchsia Salsa 95 sandals are a guaranteed way to wow. The scalloped slingback detailing and alluring ankle tie are proof that details make all the difference.

The legs-for-miles platform is a top pick for Spring. Even better if it’s richly embellished. Roger Vivier’s Cube sandal in denim is a boho-luxe masterpiece with intricate rhinestone detailing and an oversized crystal buckle.

Love drama? This shoe’s for you. Giuseppe Zanotti has added dazzling crystals to the leaping flames of his signature Cruel sandal. In mirrored gold patent leather, the strappy style takes night-out looks to the next level.

Pierpaolo Piccioli sent ankle-wrap flats in mauve, black and moss-colored suede down Valentino’s Spring runway. This variation on the style has one-of-kind allure with its heart and dagger embroidery and beaded block heel.

Like jewelry for the foot, Sergio Rossi’s elegant suede sandal is brilliantly trimmed with multicolor glass gems. But wait, it’s gorgeous from every angle—the geometric ankle strap forms a sexy triangular shape in the back.
