Better in Black & White

Fashion News
A look from Ralph Lauren's Fall collection.

By Jessica Mehalic Lucas

Ever the style pioneer, Coco Chanel once said, “Women think of all colors except the absence of color. I have said that black has it all. White too. Their beauty is absolute. It is the perfect harmony.” She would certainly be pleased by this season’s assortment of ready-to-wear and accessories in the perennially chic color combo. There’s no gray area here—a high-contrast look always looks perfectly put-together.

Ralph Lauren’s first see-now-buy-now collection, the most recent of his two Fall shows, tapped into the brand’s core DNA with its Western and Art Deco inspiration. There’s allure in a straight-off-the runway look, especially one in such a striking silhouette. Imagine strolling into the office in this winter white ensemble. #respect

Although Escada’s Fall collection focused on sporty luxury with colorful desk-to-dinner looks, we’re glad that evening-only stunners like a herringbone lace dress made it into the assortment. Fashion director Daniel Wingate also created this elegantly minimalist black gown with an oversized white sash that will be available at the Bal Harbour boutique.

We love the graphic pop of a black and white accessory. DSquared2’s iconic DD shoulder bag, available in a classic and medium size, has AM to PM versatility with its clean rectangular shape and chain shoulder strap. The new-for-Fall clutch, featuring a removable strap, owns your next night out.

Tomas Maier has a talent for casual yet luxurious creations. “I don’t want to make anything that a woman couldn’t walk out of the store with and wear right away,” he has said. Well, he nailed it with this striped look—we want it all, down to the leather sneakers.

For a full-on fashion statement, opt for Salvatore Ferragamo’s double-breasted coat with mink buttons. Let it play style star over a sleek LBD or dress in a saturated solid.

If you’re looking to elevate your shoe game, step into a pair of Roger Vivier’s Belle Vivier Trompette Pumps. The eye-catching houndstooth print also makes an appearance on the Mini Viv’ Crossbody Bag.
