Fall's Trophy Bags

Gucci’s hit Dionysus bag is hand-stitched with playful flora and fauna.

With September right around the corner, we’ve got that new season, new bag vibe. And lately, designers have been going maximalist, proving that more is more. From shimmering embellishment to intricate embroidery to print-on-print, these standout styles totally make an outfit.

If you’re feeling whimsical, Alessandro Michele doesn’t disappoint. Gucci’s Dionysus shoulder bag is crafted of the brand’s signature GG logo fabric and suede, beautifully embroidered with a bird and flower motif. Eye-catching and smartly sized, it’s got that day-to-night thing down.

In a similar romantic space is Valentino’s My Rockstud tote in elegant denim with vibrant butterfly embroidery. With this on your arm, casual weekend style is instantly elevated. For another cool take on texture, carry Chloé’s Faye bag with suede patchwork—it’s ideal for boho-chic adventures.

We can’t wait for Maria Grazia Chiuri’s first Dior show, but until then, the house’s new Runway Bag will keep us happy. Inspired by Christian Dior’s love of flowers, the slender silhouette is hand-embroidered with precious blooms made of sequins and fringes. Wear it over the shoulder with the wide strap or hand carry it—either way, it’s the ultimate night-out companion. Special order it from the Dior shop in Saks Fifth Avenue.

Flowers are also top of mind at Fendi where baguettes are bedecked with fantastical florals. Full disclosure: this Double Baguette style is actually from the spring 2016 collection, but the right-now burgundy color is ideal for fall. Dolce & Gabbana got in on the garden party as well with vibrant tulip prints on shoulder bags and totes.

Those who like to travel light can look to Bottega Veneta. The small Olimpia bag has been updated in unique mosaic embroidery, a rich contrast to the hand-woven intrecciato leather. A gunmetal strap can be worn two lengths, lending extra versatility.

For everyday carry, designers take roomy totes to the next level. Goyard recently introduced a limited-edition, boutique-only geometric design called the Arlequin, inspired by the 1920s Russian art movement Constructivism. The stunning design can be color customized and hand-painted on any style, including the oversized Hardy.

At Louis Vuitton, the Twist MM cleverly combines an animal print canvas with a brilliant removable scarf handle. As you can see, the two contrasting patterns absolutely work. Special order the statement-making style at the Louis Vuitton shop-in-shop at Saks Fifth Avenue.
