Father Knows Best

Looking for a last minute gift for Dad? Here, we’ve edited down some of our favorite pieces that will surely suit the proudest papas out there.

Bottega Veneta is famous for its understated elegance, most succinctly captured by the brand’s renowned “intrecciato” woven leather design. One glimpse of this intricate braiding technique is a sure signal of man of substance and style!

A backpack that incorporates this motif has the perfect balance of being totally on trend and timeless. Also the tonal mixing of different shades of blue, a color most men feel right at home with, makes this a safe bet for dad.

Goyard is another luxury house that has embraced the trend toward the chic backpack alternative to a satchel. The newly launched Alpin bag has a slightly retro design to it, channeling old school Alpine explorer appeal. The bag’s versatility is also a major plus for this exceptional piece; it has been designed so that it can be worn like a traditional backpack, or slung across the body.

Go all in with Loro Piana’s “My Fiches Box” card game set. The container has been inlaid with lime wood and is designed to perfectly organize the poker chips into their six different colors and charming central motifs (hot air balloons, sail boat, helicopter etc). You might not be able to bluff your Dad in real life, but maybe with this gift you will be able to win a few hands at the gaming table.

Salvatore Ferragamo has been making award-winning shoes for generations. Buying a pair for Dad is both a smart investment and a great way to score a few points with Pop. Ferragamo has recently been finding fun new ways to make its more classic designs look modern, like with these tasseled calf skin loafers. It’s hard to get more time honored then a pair of tasseled loafers, but when you give them a shaded antique finish in a rich emerald green, well that is just the twist this traditional footwear called for.

The iconic children's book "The Little Prince" has been a go to bedtime tome for parents for generations. Now IWC has come up with a heartwarming way to honor the french masterpiece written by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry with a commemorative watch. The IWC Big Pilot’s Watch Annual Calendar “Le Petit Prince” timepiece features a precious recreation of the iconic little prince standing on a rose gold rotor on the back of the watch that represents his tiny planet, while he gazes up in amazement at the sky. This elegant special edition is limited to just 250 pieces and would make the perfect gift for Dads that never grew up.

If there is one failsafe Father’s Day gift, it is a sky blue blazer from Brunello Cucinelli. What is particularly appealing about this deconstructed jacket from Cucinelli, is that it walks that fine line of sophistication and casual nonchalance. The casual nature of the linen fabric paired with the more reserved connotations of the herringbone motif make for a chic mélange, a sentiment that is only heighted by the strong shoulders, the two-button closure and the nipped in waistline.

For a father that likes his fashion a bit more playful, then Dolce & Gabbana has got just the thing. As always, the designers have tapped into their native Sicily, this time in the form of a pair of sneakers covered with “Sicilian Garden” print. A reproduction of an intricate mosaic motif one might see placed on the grounds of a rambling garden in an Italian Palazzo, the graphic pattern will certainly be a conversation starter—and maybe keep him a little more grounded.

Prada has always been a brand that likes to push the sartorial envelope. This Father’s Day, Miuccia and company found a way to bring the traditional and the trainer together in one must-have hybrid shoe. Called the “Lace-up,” the cobalt blue shoes are a mix of a classic derby top, with a wingtip design across the toe, which has been paired with a thick wedge platform heel that features a sporty stripe down its center. The result is modern and original, and just a tad familiar.

Having a lazy Sunday doesn’t mean you sacrifice on style! One of the best ways for dads to look good while feeling relaxed is in a classic robe, and our preference is La Perla. Crafted from glossy jacquard silk and linen, La Perla’s masculine robe comes in a strong striped check motif and features a sophisticated wide shawl collar and deep flap front pockets. This is a no-fail gift for any daughter or son looking for a last minute present for Sunday.
