For almost two decades Chopard has been an official partner of the illustrious Cannes Film Festival, which opens today through May 22. For the last 19 years, the luxury Swiss jewelry house has created the famed Palme d’Or prize, which, is now produced from Fair-mined gold—a decision made by Caroline Scheufele, Chopard’s co-president and artistic director.

But Chopard’s commitment to the festival goes much further than just creating the coveted Palme d’Or. Over the years, the company has built up close ties to the world of film and has launched its own annual prize called the Chopard Trophy. The award is presented at the start of the festival to an up and coming male and female actor and has gained a reputation for spotting global talents (past recipients include Marion Cotillard, Diane Kruger and Adèle Exarchopoulos).

Since 2007, Chopard has also made it an annual tradition to develop a high jewelry collection in honor of the two-week long festival. Called the “Red Carpet Collection,” Chopard has prided itself on producing a line up of pieces equal to the number of years of the festival. So this time 69 creations were brought to life by Chopard’s renowned artisans in the company’s ateliers in Geneva.

This year the craftsmen used emeralds as their muse of choice. Highlights of the collection include a necklace in 18ct white gold and titanium that features a 29.8ct black opal which is framed by emerald beads, topaz, amethyst, rubies, Paraiba tourmalines, rubelites, emeralds and sapphires. A knuckle-duster 18ct white gold ring that is finished off with a cushion-cut emerald measuring 14.8cts and surrounded by a dusting of brilliant-cut diamonds and emeralds that shimmer down the sides of the ring. And, a pair of 18ct white gold earrings topped off with vivid-blue central sapphires and a dégradé of white brilliant-cut diamonds to sparkling sapphires.

So striking are the pieces in this collection that they might just give some of the red carpet contenders a run for their money.
