Now That's Fierce!

Fashion News

Fans of Tyra Banks—the model-turned actress-turned TV host—came out in droves to meet the larger than life Tyra at Neiman Marcus in celebration of Modelland Book Tour: A Fierce Experience! Presented by Books & Books, Tyra made a special appearance on September 19, where she shared her wit and wisdom, insight and humor during this exclusive Bal Harbour event.

Tyra, outfitted in one of Fall’s major trends—sporty—had the crowd on its feet from the moment she arrived. While seating was provided for 200 guests, the aisles and surrounding areas on Neiman Marcus’ second floor were filled with ticket-holders and curious onlookers.

A posse of Modelland promoters kept the mood light and interactive as they encouraged the crowd to join Tyra in chanting and cheering. And you can be sure everyone was making “smeyes” (that’s smiling with your eyes, for those less in the know) as Tyra read excerpts from her new novel.

“Modelland” is the first young adult fantasy novel from international entertainment and media icon Tyra Banks and is published by Delacorte Press Books for Young Readers. Banks—who is also the creator and co-host of “America’s Next Top Model,” a two-time Emmy-award-winner and one of the world’s most successful models—invested five years in conceiving and writing her first book of fiction, which is the first in a series of three.

Her lifelong love of reading and storytelling is deeply embedded in every page and her commitment to empowering girls is ever-present. The book, which is for young adult readers ages 12 and up, tells the story of Tookie De La Crème, a 15-year-old aspiring model who receives an unexpected invitation to Modelland—an exclusive, mysterious place on top of a mountain. Thrown into a world where she doesn’t belong, Tookie glimpses a future that could be hers—if she survives.
