Liquid Metal

Fashion News
The Liquid collection by Space is available at Georg Jensen, Bal Harbour Shops.

Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts graduates Signe Bindslev Henriksen and Peter Bundgaard Rützou founded their architecture and interior design firm Space in Copenhagen in 2005. In just a few short years they’ve snagged an impressive list of clients—including the world’s best restaurant, Noma, which happens to be located in their hometown.

And why stray from what you know best? The latest creative output from Space is a new line of tabletop pieces for the Scandinavian stalwart, Georg Jensen. The company, whose roots in Denmark date to 1904, looked to Space to create a fresh collection of bowls and trays. The resulting eight-piece line, titled Liquid, aims to put movement into a solid object.

“Our ambition has been to create a series of centerpieces that seek their origin in the motifs of nature,” explains Henriksen. “The soft flow of water with its shifting and gentle reflections, the alluring irregularities of trees and branches, and the dreamy curvatures of flowers and petals.”

With their elegant sheen and sensual slopes, the collection reminds us that perfection doesn’t need to be symmetrical. The individual pieces are formed out of a single sheet of unembellished stainless steel. Polished to mirror perfection, the collection’s geometric shape creates a lustrous reflection. In these objects there is a balance between fluidity, complex geometry and a soft sensuality.

The purpose and use of each individual object is versatile, and could be considered a decorative sculpture as much as a functioning object.

Available in September at Georg Jensen Bal Harbour Shops.
