After Shock

Fashion News

Last year’s box office hit, “Black Swan,” had a lasting effect on fashion and film. The movie’s costumes—many of which were designed by Rodarte—were featured in a museum show dedicated to the West Coast designers, and plumes were seen on many a Fall runway.

And now, many months after its release, the silver screen images have inspired another fashion house, Yves Saint Laurent.

YSL Beauté is harnessing the talent of one of the film’s actors, Benjamin Millepied, to star in its latest fragrance campaign for the L’Homme Yves Saint Laurent men’s fragrance trilogy. The third installment, L’Homme Libre, follows behind 2009’s darker La Nuit de L’Homme, which followed the original 2006 scent L’Homme.

L’Homme Libre’s campaign stars Benjamin Millepied, a principal dancer of the New York City Ballet, who choreographed “Black Swan” and appeared in the movie. But, he may be even better known now as Natalie Portman’s fiancé. The L’Homme Libre spot was directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, whose credits include “Amores Perros” and “21 Grams.”

What’s more, Millepied isn’t the only “Black Swan” actor to appear in the fragrance campaign. Vincent Cassel—the movie’s lead—was the face of La Nuit, and its campaign was directed by Black Swan’s director Darren Aronofsky.

Whereas the first two scents are classically woody and fruity (former) and a fresh oriental (latter), L’Homme Libre, is an updated version of a woody aromatic with notes of basil, star anis and violet leaves, pink pepper, nutmeg, patchouli and vetiver.
