Tomas Maier fans will have something new to covet this fall. Bottega Veneta’s creative director has turned his razor-sharp sensibility to a new front for the house: fragrance. In tune with Maier’s ethos of invisible luxury, the scent is best described rich and subtle.

Characterized as a “leathery, floral chypre,” the development of the fragrance went through many iterations in its two-year development process. In a recent interview Maier was quoted to have said, “I’ve always been interested in the idea of scent — it is attached to a physical place, a person, moments, and memories. It underlines individuality.”

The inspiration, Maier said, was “an old house in the beautiful countryside in the Veneto region of Italy with rolling green hills, where we’re from. I envisioned a room with old wood floors, library walls and leather-bound books with the windows open wide, the breeze coming in and cut grass, hay, moss, garden flowers, growing through the room and everything mixing up.” The scent, composed by Michel Almairac of Robertet, features notes of patchouli, oak moss, Italian bergamot, Indian jasmine sambac, Brazilian pink peppercorns and Indian patchouli.

There are two editions of the perfume, the first, a special edition Extrait de Parfum is bottled in Murano glass and will be available exclusively at Bottega Veneta stores—including Bal Harbour. The more widely distributed perfume bottle (available at Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue this Fall) was designed by the same Murano glassmakers who developed the glass pieces in the Bottega Veneta home collection.  The line will also include a body cream body lotion and shower gel.

And the bottle isn’t the only thing chic about this perfume. The campaign, shot by Bruce Weber, features Nine d’Urso, whose mother Inès de la Fressange is a muse and style icon, as well as a Bal Harbour Style Setter, seen here.
