Diane von Furstenberg

Diane von Furstenberg can sometimes appear to be in two places at once. In a mere 48 hours von Furstenberg launched a brand new scent, Diane, presided over the CFDA awards (see our complete coverage of the event here) and cut the ribbon at the opening of the High Line’s second phase. Good thing these events were all happening in New York, where the dynamo designer is based.

The back-to-back happenings began with the launch of her first fragrances in more than 30 years. With an intimate (by some standards) crowd aboard her husband’s megayacht, EOS, von Furstenberg presented her namesake fragrance and held court on the two-hour cruise on the Hudson River.

Von Furstenberg will launch a complete beauty line, starting with a fragrance, called Diane, in October, which she described on her blog as “the true power of a woman and the power of seduction in a bottle!"

In a recent article in Women’s Wear Daily, von Furstenberg said, “Everything I do in life has to do with how much I am inspired by women, how much I respect women and how much I want every woman to feel strong, beautiful and confident. When you have such an intimate relationship with women there is no way that you can do it more than with the beauty business.”

So why now? Von Furstenberg had been a fan of Chantal Roos, who was formerly the president of YSL Beauté. And for the last year and a half the two have been developing their plan for the DVF beauty line. ID Beauty, who is associates with high-end cosmetic development and distribution, was a natural choice for von Furstenberg
and Roos.

“All I want is to make women feel like they can be the women they want to be,” von Furstenberg told WWD. “That message is so strong that now we have to put it in a bottle, in a tube, in a spray, in a jar and in a color.”

Expect the full line of fragrance, skincare and cosmetics in September.
