No matter how many fashion heavyweights are in a room, the spotlight seems to always shine on Lady Gaga. And this year’s CFDA Awards was no exception. Honored with the Fashion Icon Award, Gaga did her newfound title justice, showing up in a turquoise wig and wrapped in a custom Thierry Mugler—um—dress. Not sure we’ll see this precise look adopted by the masses, it has certainly sent the Twitterverse buzzing.

The night’s other big tribute was to Marc Jacobs for the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award, which was presented to the designer by Sofia Coppola who has on more than one occasion tapped the designer for her films, and she herself has starred in his campaigns. Many may share the sentiment that Jacobs is quite young still to win such a major award—including the designer himself. In the weeks following the announcement of his nomination, Jacobs said in an interview that he’d “prefer look at it as an ‘In-the-Process-of Award’.” The Geoffrey Beene Award rounds out Jacobs’ CFDA wins to 10 in all.

Anderson Cooper hosted the evening’s festivities held at Lincoln Center, including the presentation of awards to Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler for Womenswear Designer of the Year; Michael Bastian for Menswear Designer of the Year and Alexander Wang for Accessory Designer of the Year. The Swarovski Award for emerging talent went to Prabal Gurung for Womenswear, Robert Geller for Menswear and Eddie Borgo for Accessory Design.

Additional special honors were given to Phoebe Philo received an International Award, while the Media Award in memory of Eugenia Sheppard went to Hilary Alexander and the Founders Award in memory of Eleanor Lambert was presented to Hal Rubenstein by Jessica Alba. Finally, Vogue’s Creative Director Grace Coddington presented Arthur Elgort with the Board of Director’s Special Tribute Award.
