Fall Preview: Our Top Picks from New York Fashion Week

Fashion News

By Tali Jaffe

With the first of the fashion weeks behind us, and the European shows underway, we’re already looking forward to Fall. What you can look forward to this year: polka dots, feathers, lace and fur!

Thirty years later the king of American sportswear still has it going on. His Fall collection read like a greatest hits album; lots of double-face cashmere, silk jersey and fur. Casual glamour at its best.

This Navajo-inspired collection was on many fashion critics’ favorite list. Even though Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez channeled a very indigenous and crafted look, the silhouettes were unmistakably their own.

Though it was strict and severe at Marc Jacobs—in sharp contrast to Spring’s flowing bohemian look—smatterings of polka dots kept the mood a bit playful. There was also plenty of lace and latex, with skirts fashioned out of Lurex made to look like sequins.

With an emphasis on tailoring, Jason Wu turned out an incredibly polished collection suited for, well, his number one fan, First Lady Michelle Obama. High-neck blouses with bolero-style neckties topped pencil skirts and cigarette trousers. Feather fans will be happy to see his signature cocktail dress back this season, as well.

Though the fur-lined sunglasses and puffer-style boots were a bit over the top, his usual Downtown street style was tightened up this season with a more refined collection. Wang took to luxe fabrics like fur, silk and cashmere to tell a story of a more grown-up Downtownista.
