Color Me...

Fashion News

With New York Fashion Week in high gear, style sites are buzzing with early trend reports and first-hand looks straight from the runway. And while for some it’s still a little early to be thinking about Fall when it’s barely Spring, there’s a very select group of individuals who have been plotting the colors of Fall since last November.

The Pantone committee who meets twice a year—in May and November—is made up of a wide variety of people in various industries from car manufacturers to large retailers. It is by committee that the color forecasts are decided upon and then, several months later, when the looks emerge on the runway, we see what stuck.

For Fall 2011, the top pick for women is Deep Teal, with more than 15 percent of designers using the color. Other top colors this season? Quarry (a blue-gray), Bamboo (a mustardy yellow), Emberglow (coral), Coffee Liqueur and Honeysuckle (rich pink).

Which of our favorite designers ascribed to the Pantone palette? Elie Tahari likes Coffee Liqueur, Nanette Lepore took to Deep Teal and Chris Benz was drawn to Bamboo.
