Bal Harbour Shops Took Center Stage at the Fair

Cartier dazzled jewelry connoisseurs with one-of-a-kind pieces flown in especially for Art Basel. As a longtime sponsor of the fair, Cartier brought its latest Foundation-supported exhibition, Beat Takeshi Kitano, to this year's fair. Kitano's playful work was on view in Art Basel's Collector's Lounge, where MOCA executive director Bonnie Clearwater and Cartier Bal Harbour boutique Jerome Kerr-Jarrett toasted VIP guests at a special reception on December 2.

And the art didn't stop there. On view at Cartier's Bal Harbour store was a selection of the brand's most show-stopping pieces, including the Secrets et Merveilles necklace featuring nine pear-cut yellow diamonds set in platinum, a brilliant 17.99-carat carved sapphire and sapphire-bead necklace and the white ceramic, diamond and white gold Cartier Love cuff.

De Beers
Just in time for Art Basel, De Beers presented its Talisman Wonder, a unique piece of art, at an exclusive dinner at Soho Beach House in partnership with W magazine. The one-of-a-kind piece, "the most unique ever created at De Beers," was 10 years in the making as De Beers master craftsmen and diamond experts collected 691 superior natural, rough diamonds totaling 271 carats.

Alber Elbaz was the man of the hour—or week—and his dinner at the Rubell Family Collection was one of the hottest tickets in town. Elbaz, who celebrated his first visit to Miami in high style, feted the Rubells at their home/collection in Wynwood surrounded by guests including Princess Firyl of Jordan, Adam Lindemann, Michael Chow, Ingrid Sischy and Larry Gagosian.

Yves Saint Laurent
While Stefano Pilati, YSL's Creative Director, was in town to speak at Design Miami/, perhaps the bigger draw may have been the private runway show and cocktail party held at a private Miami Beach residence. More than 600 people gathered at the home of JR and Loren Ridinger for the 2011 Cruise Collection show, featuring bright pinks and purples that looked right at home in Miami.

Van Cleef & Arpels
Van Cleef & Arpels celebrated its new Charms watch collection with a fashionable fete at the Delano. The event, a playful yet competitive art history trivia match, was in partnership with Assouline to launch their new title, "Art Game Book." While famed photographer Todd Eberle's team won the grand prize, Van Cleef & Arpels' vintage Alhambra watch, those who missed out on the game show action can visit Van Cleef at Bal Harbour Shops to pick up their own parting prize, a new timepiece from the Charms collection.

100% Capri
With their newly renovated store awash in white, it's no wonder owner Antonio Aiello wanted to throw a welcome party for the visiting arterati. A live band welcomed guests to the shop's annual soiree, which, according to Antonio, "is all about the people of Art Basel."
