Skin’s lead vocalist Skunk Anansie is one of the figures highlighted in "Women Fashion Power.”

Women’s fashion has always been one of the most powerful forms of self-expression. We’ve all heard the saying- “Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak”. Fashion is and always will be an instant and universally spoken language.

Opening at London’s Design Museum on October 29th, “Women Fashion Power” is an extraordinary exhibition examining the last 150 years of women’s fashion and its great influence on two of the most impactful factors of society; power and success.

Through a fascinating compilation of clothing, photography and interviews, the exhibition will take visitors on an unforgettable visual journey illustrating how fashion has been a significant tool to build, define and strengthen our image in the world. Complementing the historical references, the exhibition examines 25 contemporary female figures—among them: Natalie Massenet, Charlotte Olympia, Vivienne Westwood, Naomi Campbell and Princess Charlene of Monaco—with personal anecdotes as well as looks from their personal wardrobes.

"This exhibition shows how women have used different approaches to dress in order to make statements which are unique to them and their personalities," says fashion expert Colin McDowell, who co-curates the show with Donna Loveday. "Few of the women in this exhibition would see themselves as fashion plates or even strong fashion followers. They create their own wardrobes, not to be fashion plates but to demonstrate who and what they are."

The exhibit—which presents the most wide-ranging collection of modern fashion ever to be shown in the UK—is designed by Pritzker-Prize-winning architect Zaha Hadid.
