Participants in the Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta.

Loro Piana, the world’s foremost cashmere manufacturer, returned as the title sponsor of the The Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta this year, held from June 7 to 11th. Held in Porto Cervo on the northern coast of Sardinia, the four-day competition saw more than 25 superyachts compete for the The Silver Jubilee Cup.

Porto Cervo’s Yacht Club Costa Smeralda is considered one of the most prestigious and beautifully functional structures of its kind anywhere in the world and provides breathtaking views of the harbour and dramatic sunsets over the Mediterranean.

This year’s overall winner, Irvine Laidlaw’s Highland Fling, took home the Loro Piana Prize Overall, the Silver Jubilee Cup—a silver trophy specially commissioned to celebrate Boat International’s silver jubilee. Crafted by Garrard, the world’s oldest jewelers, the perpetual trophy is proudly displayed at the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda.

Loro Piana’s team, led by Pier Luigi, took home third place in overall competition for its superyacht My Song. Sailing and the sea have always been two of the Loro Piana family’s great passions reflecting a set of values that coincides with the company’s philosophy: technical research, the pursuit of perfection, elegant details and respect for nature. Mr Pier Luigi Loro Piana actively participates in international Superyacht and Maxi regattas with his boat My Song. Some of Loro Piana’s best-known products are tested at sea and perfected through hands-on knowledge of sailing.

If you didn’t make it to the Regatta, you can still capture a bit of that Italian style with Loro Piana’s new eyewear—a first for the 90-year-old company. Handmade in Italy, the frames are polished through a three-phase tumbling process using plastic, birch and beech woods. The N.P.E.L.P. lenses are the result of a collaboration with Barberini, acknowledged as the world’s leading producer of optical glass solar protection lenses, and at 1.8 mm thick, are the thinnest lenses in the world.
